Alan R Smith Construction is located on the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida. This oasis has been a vacation spot for many decades. Little Gasparilla Island, where we got our start, remains one of the last of Florida’s islands that has resisted urbanization. Slightly north of Boca Grande, and South of Knight Island (also known as Palm Island), the barrier islands of this area are an untouched piece of paradise, many accessible only by boat. Nestled between Placida Sound and the Gulf of Mexico, Little Gasparilla Island is an area where there are no paved roads, no bridges, and the majority of motorized vehicles located on the island are golf carts and other all terrain vehicles. For many who live, visit, and own homes on the island and in this area, this is a welcome reprieve from overcrowded, easily accessible public beaches on the mainland and surrounding islands. Little Gasparilla offers miles of unspoiled, pristine gulf beaches to its visitors.
Slightly to the north sits Knight Island, or Palm Island. This bridgeless barrier island offers the same beautiful private beaches, but offers a few extra amenities not featured on LGI. Barge access to the island offers the security of being able to access the barge via personal vehicle. This allows residents and contractors the ease of being able to drive on and off the island at leisure, for a fee. While this is a slight upgrade, these homes, and construction on the island, offers many of the same challenges as Little Gasparilla.
We bring the careful intricate construction of barrier island homes to the coastal mainland as well, to ensure that our custom luxury builds withstand the environment, as if they were built on the island. We have projects up and down the Gulf coast, from Englewood Beach, south to Placida and Gasparilla. We pride ourselves on building quality homes that will last through the harsh Florida weather. Being locals to this area for generations, we truly love working in our backyard on the local barrier islands, and this beautiful coastal area in which we live.
